As the year draws to a close, and we look ahead to 2018, James Somauroo and Sarah Shepherd give their expert reflections on the top trends in digital health we should be watching in 2018.
We have been tremendously busy over the last three days at the GIANT Health event. It has been a marathon ride of hosting 49 expert speakers, and delivering knowledge and insights to a mixed audience of innovators, investors and clinicians, with an appetite to learn how to navigate the NHS.
The time for talking about the potential of genomic medicine is past. As England’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dame Sally Davies, writes in her report, Generation Genome, “Genomics is not tomorrow. It’s here today.” Joanne Hackett, Genomics England Chief Commercial Officer, writes for DigitalHealth.London.
Digital and technology were key themes in the Autumn Budget statement, writes Sarah Shepherd, Policy Lead at DigitalHealth.London. The statement looked beyond Brexit and borrowing to Britain’s leading role in a global “technological revolution”. Meanwhile, commitments to allocate more funding to the NHS will be welcomed, but will not satisfy the demands of an organisation facing exceptional pressure.

Hywel Williams is a Senior Research Associate at the University College London Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health.
