Ben Bawden

2020 Bio: Ben is developing systems applications and interfaces to support clinical and non-clinical colleagues. Everything from databases to web applications to Business Intelligence.
Digital Pioneer Fellowship project summary: Existing processes to get COVID-19 tests and flu vaccinations are very manual and rely on paper forms, which obviously has Data Quality (DQ) issues and is labour-intensive, error-prone, and inefficient.
Ben wants to create a system that can collect information and consent from staff, patients, and members of the wider healthcare community (e.g. CCG staff and pharmacists) through a web form, and to process the data automatically for the following:
– COVID-19 swab tests
– COVID-19 antibody tests
– Flu vaccinations
– Any other similar processes (flexible enough to add new processes as required)
It must allow additional manual information to be added (e.g. vaccine batch IDs) and allow reports to be run to identify areas where we want to encourage uptake.
For tests going to pathology and blood sciences, it should interface with their system to create the test order automatically.
Estimated number of patients / staff impacted by the project: 5,000 – 10,000 staff and patients.
Goal(s) for the programme: To eliminate DQ errors, automate the data processing and interfacing, and for the flu vaccination section achieve staff uptake of 80% (with 95% of staff having completed the consent form).
