DigitalHealth.London Spotlight: allie app
Posted on

This week, we’re shining the DigitalHealth.London spotlight on Jo Doyle, Founder of allie app. The company “exist to allieviate the fear, misinformation, confusion, frustration, uncertainty, and side effects that are a part of the experience with hormonal contraception for so many women.“
What inspires you as a founder, particularly as a diverse founder, of a digital health company?
Women’s health is an area that deserves more research and innovation. So, it is very exciting to be a part of an emerging area in health tech with so many exciting opportunities to better the lives of women.
With allie app, I’d love to contribute to a future where hormonal contraception exists in the precision medicine space. This would give women more information on exactly how different methods may uniquely affect them and their bodies, and therefore, allow them to make a science-backed decision.
If something like hormonal contraception, which is highly effective, can fit seamlessly into women’s lives, then it will truly provide them the independence and liberties that was intended when it was first introduced.
What attracted you to apply for the DigitalHealth.London Leap Programme?
As a first-time founder from a non-medical background, I wanted to ensure I had access to a network of relevant experts within medicine, who were also interested in working with start-ups. It was critical that we had the right advisors to steer us in the right direction.
It can be lonely as a solo founder as well, and I found the community the Leap programme created to be incredibly inspiring and supportive. I am so grateful to be a part of a community so dedicated to fostering innovation, and one that continues to support me even after the programme has ended.
The DigitalHealth.London Leap programme is funded by the UK Government via the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). It is delivered by the Health Innovation Network (HIN) South London in partnership with the Office of Life Sciences, CW+, Medicity, NHS England, the Mayor of London and the Levelling Up Fund.
