Visiba
NHS Problem
In England, 44% of GP capacity is allocated for same-day assessment, yet audits show only 4-5% of cases truly necessitate same-day care. Similarly, audits show 15-30% of Emergency Department (ED) activity, could be safely managed in primary care. Challenges with navigating NHS services mean there is a disproportionate allocation of urgent care, which diminishes the availability of routine appointments, places avoidable pressure on acute pathways and delivers less cost-effective healthcare. Acute pathways experience year-on-year increases in activity, showing the need for a new approach to managing patient navigation.
The Solution
Visiba is a Nordic health technology organisation, specialising in the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for patient triage. Visiba was established in 2014, with operations in Sweden, Norway, Finland and the UK. Visiba Triage is a best-in-class AI-enabled triage system and medical device. It is unique through its responsible AI infrastructure and clinical feedback loop. Visiba Triage continually collects performance data, which enables the AI to do the following:
- Continually learn from real-world clinicians/cases
- Monitor performance in real time to ensure safe clinical practice
- Provide complete transparency to healthcare organisation/s on AI accuracy, measured by their clinical staff.
Impact
In an average trust, 6,800 people undergo major surgery each year. Complications and additional bed days cost approximately £68.4M. Applying individualised prehabilitation could save £38.2M, 15,640 bed days and reduce CO2 emissions by 659,150kg. These extra bed days could be used to increase elective capacity.
