Vanessa Ponnusamy

Vanessa Ponnusamy Horizon Fellow

Senior Project Manager & App Lead, Maternity Transformation Programme

North West London Integrated Care System (NWL ICS)

Biography: Vanessa has been in the NHS for over 10 years and worked as a Clinical Autonomic Scientist before venturing into project management in 2018. She has been with the maternity team at the ICS since May 2021 where she leads on two major projects:

  • The Mum & Baby App
  • Setting up the Perinatal Pelvic Health Service Pilot across NWL

Horizon Fellowship project summary: The aim of the project is to build a Care Information Exchange (CIE – Patient Knows Best) portal into the Mum & Baby App to allow users to complete their maternity care and support plans in their CIE account which will enable the clinicians/midwives to view these digitally via an existing CIE portal on the hospital record system. This will be piloted initially for three months at one trust in NWL, evaluated and revised as needed, before looking to roll out across NWL. This is the first step in the longer term aim of digitalising the entire maternity record.

Estimated number of patients / staff impacted by the project: There are approximately 800 deliveries across this trust per month which is 2400 in three months – the aim is to reach at least 70% of the 2400 service users in the pilot. As the personalised care and support plans (PCSP) span the entire maternity journey which informs care, all midwifery staff will be impacted by the use of this digitalised record.

Goal(s) for time on the Horizon Fellowship programme: The goal for the duration of the Fellowship is to have successfully launched and run the initial three-month pilot with evaluation phase as well.
