Sweatcoin

NHS problem

The NHS currently spends £6.1bn on obesity-related diseases. One of the leading causes of obesity is physical inactivity – in 2015, 63% of adults in the UK were overweight or obese. Promoting and incentivising physical activity has the potential to have a large impact on public health.

The solution

Sweatcoin incentivises physical activity behaviour change through a mobile app. The app tracks the number of steps walked and converts them into a reward point – the points can be redeemed for products, goods and services. Users are incentivised to walk more, resulting in long term, sustained behaviour change.

Impact

Sweatcoin worked with the NHS in South West London to run a 10-week programme aimed at pre-diabetic patients, who used the app to incentivise behaviour change – the result was an incredible +45% increase in walking, average weight loss of 1.1kg, and 9.5/10 NPS score.
