Sister, Outpatient

Biography: I am an experienced Sister in the Outpatient Department, where I played a crucial role in supporting the adaptation of new protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic. This period sharpened my focus on ensuring clinics were well-equipped and ran smoothly, while igniting my passion for innovation in healthcare. I am driven to develop creative solutions that enhance patient safety and improve operational efficiency.

In 2023, I completed the Emerging Leaders Programme at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, which strengthened my leadership abilities and deepened my commitment to innovation, particularly in enhancing communication with patients seen in clinic. I co-led a patient-centered quality improvement initiative and facilitated training for new healthcare support workers, helping to shape the future of care. Through a blend of leadership and innovation, I remain dedicated to continuously advancing both patient care and staff development.

Horizon Fellowship project summary: I aim to enhance patient communication in the outpatient department by leveraging technology to provide clearer appointment letters and better inform patients about the purpose of their visit. Currently, wait times are long and appointment letters often include little information, leading to confusion and stress for patients. Through the Digital Healthcare Fellowship, I will gain the strategies and tools to address this issue by learning best practices in digital healthcare communication. By exploring innovative solutions, I will implement a more intuitive system that improves patient understanding and overall experience.

Estimated number of patients / staff impacted by the project: 10

Goal(s) for time on the Horizon Fellowship programme: My goal for the Horizon Fellowship is to gain practical strategies and insights into leveraging digital healthcare innovations to enhance patient communication in outpatient settings. I aim to implement technology-driven solutions that streamline processes, ultimately enhancing overall care experience.
