Digital Pioneer Fellowship project: Enhancing NHS 111 with a digital platform

NHS 111 Online seeks to enhance the existing 111 service with a digital platform. For three of the eight CCGs in North West London (NWL), we have gone live with a 111 app powered by Babylon. For the other five CCGs, we are planning to launch the digital channel by April 2018. In NWL, we are keen to have a single supplier for 111 Online across our STP, therefore developing a robust evaluation framework will be key. In Hammersmth and Fulham CCG, we are also working on the evaluation of the new GP at Hand service, working with NHS England.

Matthew is Urgent Care Lead at Hammersmith and Fulham CCG, where he is responsible for commissioning and improving a portfolio of urgent care services. From a digital perspective, he chairs the North West London Integrated Urgent Care Digital Subgroup, where he works with partners to embed the digital enablers for his STP’s nascent Integrated Urgent Care system. Prior to his current role Matthew worked in national healthcare policy and as a Strategy Consult at Monitor Deloitte. Matthew has a BSc Pharmacology, Postgraduate Certificate in Education and an MSc in Health Policy.

“Digital Transformation is critical because… we live the majority of our lives digitally, yet when we interact with our healthcare system we are expected to revert to analogue – this must change if we are to meet health and wider societal challenges of now and the future.”
