Digital Pioneer Fellowship project: Supporting Digital Enablement in Care Homes

The project will support Care Homes across London with completing the DSP toolkit to allow access to NHSmail. In total across London there are 1500 Care Homes and our aim would be to support as many as possible through this process. Alongside this we will be working on supporting system engagement to use NHSmail as the communication method from Health and Social Care to the Care Homes.

“I began my career in the NHS as a nurse at York University Hospital in 2010 following the decision to head in to a career in nursing following time in both banking and procurement roles and have not looked back. Moving down to London in 2013 to start at UCLH as a Senior Staff Nurse I have been lucky enough to have enjoyed a number of roles within the trust which have given me an wide range of experiences beyond the usual nursing roles and a valuable insight into the workings of an acute trust. I am passionate about patient care and the partnership between staff experience and developing multi disciplinary teams to support improvement together. Joining HLP was a decision that I made to explore the wider system gaining new experience and hopefully bring clinical knowledge that supports and complements the work we are carrying out within the Care Closer to Home team. I have been involved in a range of digital projects from ward based apps to admit patients, supporting engagement with My Health Professional work with LAS and the Care Home sector and am looking forward to working closely with the care homes to support digital enablement.”

Key achievements

  • Qualifying as a nurse – really was the best decision I have ever made!
    Supporting the transfer of UCLH Urology Inpatient Services to a new designated site within UCLH.
    Working through from specification for ward areas, staff consultation. recruitment of two new Urology nursing teams to successfully opening 3 new wards safely and on time. It was my proudest moment seeing a team flourish in an environment that we had worked together to achieve.
  • Leading trust wide roll out of Exemplar Ward Programme at UCLH supporting clear setting of standards, reduction in variation and supporting Quality Improvement within Ward MDT teams. My favourite aspect of this role was the time I spent with the ward teams supporting team away days and hearing of the amazing work that often goes unnoticed on ward teams
