Digital Pioneer Fellowship project: Mobile app for home monitoring of young people with Cystic Fibrosis

Reducing the need for hospital attendance for routine clinics for young people with Cystic Fibrosis, through developing a mobile phone app that can monitor young people with Cystic Fibrosis at home. This has the potential to act as an early warning system for lung exacerbations.

Claire is a paediatric registrar taking time out of her medical training to work on a PhD exploring the feasibility of monitoring young people with Cystic Fibrosis at home, using a specially designed mobile phone app and a collection of Bluetooth equipment. The study is currently actively recruiting and is being run over 8 sites in the UK and 2 sites in Canada with the lead site at the Royal Brompton Hospital, London. She is enjoying exploring how technology provides new ways to engage young people in their health.

“Digital transformation is critical as it provides innovating ways to change and improve the delivery of patient care.”
