Bleepa (from Feedback Medical)

NHS problem

Clinicians require rapid access to medical images and reports, regardless of the acquiring imaging provider or site, to support clinical decision making. Any constraints in the ability to access images and reports can cause delays and result in unnecessary repeat diagnostic testing for patients. Traditional methods of interhospital image exchange require images to be pushed across the Image Exchange Portal. This requires a radiographer at both sites and can take considerable amounts of time. Failing this, patients are either transferred with their images burned to CD or reimaged on arrival at the accepting centre.

There are also safety and security risks such as the sharing of patient identifiable data and imaging on Whatsapp and other tools that aren’t secure, and also the associated risks to both trusts and clinicians.

Additionally, there are approximately 130,000 pagers still in use and with an annual cost of around £6.6 million – the government has indicated the need for a reduction in this by the end of 2021

The solution

Bleepa® is the essential tool to enable remote and secure communications between clinicians and teams – designed by clinicians for clinicians, it is an easy-to-use, CE marked digital medical imaging communications tool that enables clinicians to view and discuss patient cases at the touch of a button.

Impact

Detailed return-on-investment benefits identified at Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, an early adopter of Bleepa, include:

  • Reduction in administrative support – 100% of all inpatient respiratory referrals can be managed without admin support freeing time for other tasks.
  • Fully auditable process – Bleepa is fully auditable, every referral and outcome is available to review during and following the patient episode. During the pilot 276 conversations/feedback were recorded in the system.
  • Response times – Bleepa streamlined the process for respiratory inpatient referrals reducing an average 2.1 days for review of the referrals to action within 0.4 days. This represents a saving of 1.7 days per referral.
  • Releasing time to care – The process of responding to referrers can take on average 7.5 minutes per referral. Bleepa reduced this response time to less than one minute. This results in a clinical time saving of approximately 6.5 minutes per referral.
