Speech and language problems affect 10% of children in the UK; however, the severe shortage of speech and language therapists results in growing waiting lists and an increasing number of children missing out on crucial support.

The Solution

Our product, VoxiPlay Pro, uses AI-enabled speech technology to provide children, with or without access to a dedicated therapist, with an innovative mobile game app that is effective, accessible, affordable and engaging.

VoxiPlay Pro is being designed to deliver structured speech practice based on their performance and progress. It aims to speed up children’s progress and enable therapists to support new children and cut waiting lists. It presents performance data in a detailed dashboard for speech and language therapists to keep track of the child’s progress and offer extra support when needed.

Impact

VoxiPlay Pro is being developed for clinician-led use with children with speech sound difficulties. It aims to support regular practice and closer alignment between therapists, families, and schools.

VoxiPlay Pro also aims to support autistic children and children with developmental speech delay. It supports NHS Long Term Plan 2019, which made autism a clinical priority and supported preventive services to reduce avoidable hospital admissions.

Published pilot trial findings show that VoxiPlay Pro can support speech clarity, confidence, and engagement in practice, as reported by therapists, parents, and teachers. It can also support service efficiency and capacity, subject to further evaluation. We continue to evaluate VoxiPlay Pro to assess clinical outcomes, implementation, and potential service-level benefits more robustly.
