NHS Problem
Speech and language problems affect 10% of children in the UK; however, the severe shortage of speech and language therapists results in growing waiting lists and an increasing number of children missing out on crucial support.
The Solution
Our product, VoxiPlay, uses advanced speech recognition technology to provide children, with or without access to a dedicated therapist, with an innovative mobile game app that is effective, accessible, affordable and engaging.
VoxiPlay delivers structured speech practice based on their performance and progress. It speeds up children’s progress and enables therapists to support new children and cut waiting lists. It presents performance data in a detailed dashboard for speech and language therapists to keep track of the child’s progress and offer extra support when needed.
Impact
VoxiPlay aims to support autistic children and children with developmental speech delay. VoxiPlay supports NHS Long Term Plan 2019, which made autism a clinical priority and supported preventive services to reduce avoidable hospital admissions.
Based on interviews with primary school teachers and published research, between 2-3 children in every classroom can benefit from VoxiPlay. We estimate that VoxiPlay can help over 400,000 children aged 3-9.
We are currently conducting an economic evaluation for VoxiPlay and interviews with participants in VoxiPlay pilot trial, where we shall gather feedback on the benefits and any cost savings arising from using VoxiPlay in different settings. We shall use this feedback and information to complete our economic evaluation of VoxiPlay in Q1 2024.
