Arbi Hasanaj

Foundation Year 2 Doctor

Croydon Services NHS Trust

Biography: I work as a Doctor at Croydon Hospital, where I diagnose and treat patients while learning from senior colleagues. My role involves a range of tasks, from discussing conditions with patients to performing practical procedures that support their care. In addition to clinical duties, I participate in quality improvement initiatives and audits to enhance hospital services, as well as undertake research projects that contribute to the medical and scientific community. Outside of work, I have a strong interest in coding and healthcare technology. Combining these passions has inspired me to explore new ways to use technology to better support patient care.

South West London ICL Digital Pioneer Fellowship project summary: I am currently developing a new resource tool for clinicians in acute hospital settings to aid in the diagnosis of patients with abdominal pain. The app will feature up-to-date guidelines on investigations and interpretations, as well as consultant input on managing different conditions and appropriate referral pathways. This tool aims to facilitate targeted treatment, ultimately contributing to safer and shorter hospital stays for patients.

Estimated number of patients / staff impacted by the project: The app will be distributed to all ED staff (doctors and advanced nurse practitioners – roughly 50 staff). And the accident and emergency may see 120-200 people a day. Patients presenting with abdominal pain make up a large proportion of these (possibly 50%). So to estimate – the app may be used in possible 60-100 people per day.

Goal(s) for time on the South West London ICL Digital Pioneer Fellowship: My goals for the Digital Pioneer Fellowship programme are to enhance my skills in digital healthcare innovation and learn how to effectively implement these advancements in clinical settings. I hope to collaborate with experts to learn from as well as develop impactful solutions to enhance patient care and hospital efficiency.
