Frontier Health, a young artificial intelligence (AI) company focused on easing operational pressures in the NHS, has raised $16 million in seed funding to accelerate the rollout of its administrative automation platform, JUNO. The seed round was led by European venture capital (VC) firm Atomico, with participation from firstminute capital, MMC, Tenacity Capital and XYZ.
The company was founded in 2024 by Rachel Finegold and brings together experience working across more than 40 NHS hospitals to tackle the administrative bottlenecks that contribute to long waiting times, staff burnout and inefficient patient flow. Finegold describes witnessing highly skilled staff “drown in process” as outdated systems struggled to keep pace with rising demand.
JUNO is an AI‑driven “teammate” designed to integrate into existing NHS systems and adapt to the workflows of individual services. Rather than requiring organisations to redesign processes around the new technology, JUNO is built to learn from the environment it is deployed into. Frontier Health positions the platform as a tool to reduce repetitive administrative work such as patient follow-ups, pathway tracking and delay management that can slow patient journeys.
Since going live at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, Juno has helped clinical, operational and financial teams to work more efficiently. Staff are seeing significant time savings, equating to 7 hours of clinical staff time per week and over 51 hours of non-clinical staff time per week. For patients, this means better flow and quicker access to care.
Frontier Health’s raise signals investor confidence in technologies that can strengthen healthcare delivery by improving the systems that support clinical care. The funding will support Frontier Health’s expansion across the NHS, further development of JUNO’s capabilities, as well as scaling of its engineering and implementation teams.
