DigitalHealth.London Spotlight: Pyrexia

DigitalHealth.London Spotlight: Pyrexia

In June 2023, the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan was published, with shortfalls in the healthcare workforce estimated to reach between 260,000 and 360,000 staff by 2036/37. In response, it set out three priorities areas – train, retain and reform – in order to boost staffing levels across acute, mental health, ambulance, primary care and community care settings.

Two years on, the administrative burden of recruitment remains a key barrier for both employers and staff, impacting patient experience, service capacity, productivity and staff wellbeing. Pyrexia, an Accelerator company and focus of this week’s DigitalHealth.London spotlight, is offering a new approach to healthcare administration for recruitment, onboarding and compliance. The company share how their AI-powered cloud platform, which includes a novel Digital Staff Passport, has the potential to save time, money and bridge workforce gaps.

Healthcare administration today is fragmented, inefficient, and burdened by manual processes. NHS organisations manage numerous separate software tools for recruitment, onboarding and compliance, leading to duplicated data entry, high error rates and excessive administrative workload. This fragmentation delays staff onboarding, increases reliance on costly locums, and reduces overall operational efficiency and safety.

Critical patient care can be compromised due to administrative bottlenecks, especially in understaffed departments and practices. With growing pressures and constrained resources, it’s crucial for healthcare providers to streamline their back-office operations, ensuring they can maintain robust staffing levels and focus more on patient care and less on paperwork.

Pyrexia is an AI-driven cloud platform unifying NHS workforce management across recruitment, onboarding and compliance. Built from clinician and operational manager input, our software automates and integrates fragmented workflows into one seamless, user-friendly experience. AI agents reduce manual tasks, rapidly verify digital identities, manage credentials and automate compliance monitoring.

Our digital staff passport significantly reduces average onboarding times from four weeks to two days, reducing administrative workload by 70%. With real-time analytics and automated reminders, Pyrexia ensures high compliance standards and efficient resource allocation, allowing NHS teams to prioritise patient care, enhance staff satisfaction and significantly reduce operational costs.

Founded by two doctors, Pyrexia was created to tackle the operational inefficiencies experienced firsthand within the NHS. Over two years, we’ve mapped detailed workflows across multiple NHS organisations, enabling us to deeply understand systemic inefficiencies in recruitment, onboarding and compliance. Our AI-powered solution was developed collaboratively, embedding insights from clinicians, operational managers and digital health leaders.

Pyrexia launched its first implementations in several London GP practices and NHS trusts in early 2025, demonstrating significant reductions in onboarding and compliance workloads. Recognised through accelerators such as DigitalHealth.London and Plug & Play, we continue to expand, addressing operational inefficiencies and improving healthcare workforce management nationally.

  • General Practice: We’ve cut average onboarding times from four weeks to two days, with an 70% admin input reduction. Some practices are now seeing £20,000 in direct savings.
  • Multi-trust recruitment deployment: Launching across several trusts in North-West London to assist in shortlisting thousands of doctors.
  • Timesheet and invoice automation: £7 million worth of invoices completely automated to over 20 different NHS Trusts.
  • CQC Compliance uplift: Real-time credential monitoring improved CQC preparedness scores at pilot sites.
  • Digital Staff Passport: We launched an open Digital Staff Passport for healthcare professionals to streamline their onboarding with new employers, with training and HR information all in one place.

Participating in the DigitalHealth.London Accelerator has helped accelerate Pyrexia’s growth trajectory. The tailored support and mentorship provided valuable strategic insights into navigating NHS procurement and compliance complexities. Networking opportunities and visibility from the accelerator facilitated conversations with those in primary and secondary care environments. Workshops and bespoke advisory sessions have helped us articulate our value proposition more clearly.

Our engagement with DigitalHealth.London has been instrumental in advancing our objectives, scaling deployments and accelerating the adoption of our technology across NHS organisations, ensuring rapid, sustainable impact.
