Biography: Ryan Dhunnookchand is a respiratory medicine specialist and a medical education fellow at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in the UK. He has been actively involved in innovative projects during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the development of an Acute COVID app. This app was designed to improve staff confidence in managing COVID-19 patients, particularly in using non-invasive ventilation techniques such as CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure). His work emphasized supporting healthcare professionals with accessible, app-based training to enhance patient safety and outcomes while addressing the challenges of skill gaps during the pandemic
Dr. Dhunnookchand is also recognised for his contributions to medical education, integrating technology to upskill staff and promote effective respiratory care, even under resource-constrained circumstances
Horizon Fellowship project summary: Re-imagination of Chelsea & Westminster Acute Pleural Disease Service; The opportunity to redesign the service, adapting to meet a growing and underserved group of diverse patients suffering lung diseases including collapsed lung, fluid accumulation around the lungs or cancer surround the lung known as mesothelioma. The newly designed service allow one-stop assessment, diagnostic intervention and management of pleural diseases, modelling on the successful breast one-stop services available nationwide. Offering a professional friendly service in a comprehensive, safe and modern space designed around our patients needs.

Goal(s) for time on the Horizon Fellowship programme: Innovation and re-imagination of respiratory services designed to embrace digitilisation and technological advancement available to our diverse patient groups. Horizon Fellowship offers me the critical support, space and networking to design and innovate service and products for the enhancement on care delivery in the NHS.
