NHS Problem
The NHS faces a critical shortage of radiologists; by 2027, it will have 40% fewer radiologists than it requires. In 2022, the UK spent £223M trying to mitigate this shortfall, with no indication that the situation has improved. An area of concern is breast radiology, where 2.2 million mammograms are read in the UK each year. An insufficient supply of radiologists can cause delays in diagnosis and subsequently, treatment, which is particularly troublesome given the impact early detection and treatment have on breast cancer survival rates.
The Solution
Praxium AI aims to reduce the strain on the NHS by making its radiologists more productive, starting with breast radiologists. By creating an AI copilot that helps breast radiologists read, diagnose and report on mammograms, Praxium believes each radiologist will be able to evaluate twice as many cases in the same amount of time, without any decrease in accuracy or patient safety.
Impact
Praxium AI believes its solution will save the NHS £23 million and their breast radiologists 307,125 hours per annum.
