Mothercore

NHS Problem

Each year, over 600,000 women give birth in the UK, and more than half experience long-term issues like incontinence, prolapse, or pelvic pain. Around 13 million women are also navigating perimenopause or menopause, both linked to pelvic floor dysfunction. Despite this, support remains limited. Stress urinary incontinence alone costs the NHS £177 million annually. Pelvic floor physiotherapy isn’t just treatment; in many cases, it’s prevention that could keep many people from secondary and tertiary care and hospitals – from being overfilled.

Founder Story

Just under two years ago, I was happily pregnant – but terrified. I feared birth would leave me with incontinence, pain, and a “new normal” I hadn’t signed up for. After giving birth, I struggled to get help through a GP and had to seek help privately. Whilst it helped, it also sparked more questions.

I was shocked that most mums I knew didn’t seek help – citing cost, discomfort, or thinking symptoms were “just normal.” In France, physio is standard postpartum care. In the UK, the wait can stretch to 22 weeks.

That’s why I’m building Mothercore to give every woman affordable, accessible pelvic health support during pregnancy and postpartum.

The Solution

Mothercore is an online platform that aims to break down the barriers of accessibility to pelvic floor physiotherapy. From 1:1 sessions to group classes and self-guided programmes, every woman should be able to get the pelvic floor care she needs to suit different budgets and preferences.

Impact

Today, Mothercore supports women through the vulnerable journey from pregnancy to postpartum. Tomorrow, we’ll raise a generation of confident mothers. Around 14% of women experience severe fear of childbirth (tokophobia), often driven by fears of incontinence, prolapse, and pelvic floor damage (I’ve been there!).

Mothercore’s impact:

  • Earlier diagnosis and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction
  • Improved postnatal recovery and quality of life
  • Greater workforce participation
  • Reduced NHS burden through preventative care

Our goal: To support 10,000+ women in 3 years – building a national community of informed, empowered mothers.
