Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions place sustained pressure on the NHS, costing around £5 billion each year and accounting for almost one third of GP consultations. Rehabilitation often continues at home, where clinicians have limited visibility of whether exercises are completed correctly, consistently or at all. Progress is commonly assessed through occasional appointments and subjective reporting, making it harder to identify poor technique, pain or disengagement early. This can slow recovery, increase avoidable face-to-face contact and constrain already stretched physiotherapy capacity. Physmo addresses this gap by making home rehabilitation measurable, guided and visible to clinicians using only a patient’s smartphone camera today. 

Founder story

LV8 Sport was founded by friends who shared a passion for sport and brought experience in technology and marketing. After two years developing computer-vision applications for sport, they recognised that the same movement-analysis technology used to improve athletic performance could address a gap in musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Their work included a collaboration with Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and helped establish the technology in a demanding, high-performance environment. That foundation evolved into Physmo, bringing smartphone-based movement analysis, feedback and accountability to physiotherapy and recovery.  

The solution

LV8 Sport is a British health technology company developing AI-powered tools for performance, recovery and rehabilitation. Its Physmo platform uses a smartphone camera, computer vision and pose estimation to analyse a patient’s movement during prescribed exercises. Patients receive real-time guidance on technique and record pain and difficulty, while clinicians can remotely review adherence, joint angles, range of motion, session recordings and progress trends. Physiotherapists create personalised programmes and can identify missed sessions, pain flags or form issues requiring attention. Built from technology first proven in sport, Physmo brings objective movement analysis into data-driven home rehabilitation for physiotherapy and musculoskeletal care. 

Impact

Expected and early actual impact: Physmo is designed to improve rehabilitation adherence, make progress objectively measurable and enable physiotherapists to support more patients without relying on frequent face-to-face appointments. Early trials in elite sport and private physiotherapy networks report a 40% reduction in assessment time, up to a 25% increase in clinician capacity, and exercise completion rising from below 50% to over 80%. These are early, non-NHS results and should be validated through prospective NHS evaluation. 

For patients, the expected benefits are clearer exercise guidance, greater accountability, earlier identification of pain or poor technique, and faster, more confident recovery at home. For clinicians, automated range-of-motion measurement, adherence monitoring and progress trends should reduce manual assessment and help prioritise patients who need intervention. For providers, this could reduce avoidable appointments, improve pathway capacity and lower costs associated with delayed recovery or disengagement. Physmo’s next phase is NHS trials; patient numbers, staff hours and cash-releasing savings have therefore not yet been established in NHS settings. Evaluation should measure adherence, functional outcomes, appointment utilisation, clinician time, safety, patient experience and cost per completed pathway. It will assess whether visibility helps widen access for people facing travel, mobility, work or caring barriers to appointments.
