Project summary: The project involves the development of a self-monitoring app and website for Adult patients with Cystic Fibrosis at the Royal Brompton hospital in an effort to put patients in the driving seat of controlling their health from the comfort of their own homes or whilst on the move.
The app currently allows patients to monitor their lung function, weight and activity using spirometers, scales and activity trackers and this information is bluetooth-linked to their app. The app technology allows the team to conduct virtual video consultations with patients via their digital conferencing platform. The CF team are able to view this patient data on the clinician facing portal. The app is currently in development and the project plans on building additional self-monitoring features for patients. Further research needs to be conducted with patients to ensure that the app continues to be developed for their CF patients based on their wants and needs. Some additional features that the team are planning on implementing include the ability to measure oxygen saturations, integration of blood results and blood glucose monitoring and the ability for patients to view clinic letters. They are planning on developing medicines management features on the app.
Estimated number of patients / staff impacted by the project: There are currently 550 Adult CF patients at the Royal Brompton hospital and they plan on offering this app and self-monitoring equipment to all eligible patients.
Goal(s) for the programme: The goal of this project is to create a self-monitoring app and website that can be used by their CF patients that allow them to monitor and take control of their health and that they find is beneficial for both education and in managing their health remotely.
