Digital Pioneer Fellowship project: Investigating the use of digital therapy for children with language disorders

Scoping activities completed thus far include information gathering sessions with parents of children with language disorder, a focus group with NHS Speech & Language Therapists and a 6-week proof of concept study with nine children and their school-support staff.

“Since beginning my career as a Speech and Language Therapist in 2005, I have held a number of specialist, consultative and managerial roles supporting children with communication difficulties in particular those who struggle to acquire, understand and use language. Given the growth in digital familiarity amongst the younger generation, my current focus is engaging with the public and private sector to explore how practitioners can utilise technology to improve client functioning and reduce the burden of underlying difficulties. My work in this area has been supported by St George’s Trust and University where I am based, the Welcome Trust via a clinical innovation grant and City University, London through collaboration with leading academics. I now look forward to the fantastic networking, CPD and career progression opportunities that participating in the Digital Pioneer Fellowship will bring. Digital transformation is crucial to ensure that the NHS is the foremost provider of care that delivers on efficiency, productivity and user satisfaction.”
